Halle Bailey has had a breakout 2023. Her spectacular performance as Ariel in The Little Mermaid showed the world that she’s a special talent who is ready for the next level. Unfortunately, the actress/singer’s success also led to a new level of scrutiny. She’s recently found herself as the subject of aggressive and downright disrespectful pregnancy rumors.

As she looks ahead to 2024, Halle is moving on from the trolls with an Instagram Story post thanking her “real supporters.” She also showed her gratitude for the people offering “unconditional love” throughout her journey.

“i just also wanna say I’m so very grateful for my real supporters who are respectful of women’s bodies and loving,” Bailey wrote. “being under a microscope is not easy but for the real ones who show unconditional love religiously i appreciate you. I feel so blessed and grateful.”

Can we all take a moment to applaud Halle for how she’s handled the neverending stream of criticism she’s dealt with this year. She’s been class personified and has shown a maturity well beyond her 23 years.

Most recently, trolls were pointing to the fact that her nose was wide, calling it “pregnancy nose.” First of all, this is gross. Secondly, do women’s bodies change drastically during pregnancy? Yes. But guess what? They also frequently change because you’re a woman and our bodies do crazy things sometimes. Seriously, stay out of Halle’s body and business. After this nonsense reached a ridiculous fever pitch, she hit back at critics who think they get to comment on her looks and personal life.

“If I see one more person say something about my nose one more time, it’s gonna be hell to pay,” she said on her personal Snapchat. “And you know why? ‘Cause I am Black. I love my nose. [What are you] concerned about my nose for? Leave me the hell alone!”

Up next, Halle will appear on an upcoming Variety cover and joins fellow Disney Princess Rachel Zegler for one of the outlet’s entertaining Actors on Actors conversations. Zegler plays Snow White in the new live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale. Zegler revealed that the story will center around the heroine becoming a strong leader and not waiting to be rescued, which sent conservatives into a frenzy over an old story being updated and reimagined. I’m sure these two talented women will have plenty to discuss.
