As the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce continues to catch up from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, 2023 has been a banner year for Black artists to receive stars on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. The year is ending with a big name as country superstar and Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker was honored with star No. 2,766.

The country star was surrounded by his kids as he received his star on the Walk of Fame, which is located near country music legend Charley Pride. Rucker and his Hootie and the Blowfish bandmates are set to embark on The Summer Camp with Trucks Tour in 2024.

If you’re not in the business or don’t follow these sort of things closely, you may not know that getting a star on the Walk of Fame costs $75,000. Most of the time, that fee is paid by a production company or movie studio. Sometimes fans or other celebrities will help out to get someone their flowers. That’s what happened with singer Melba Moore, who received a star for Live Theatre/Live Performance. She revealed on Instagram that comedian Katt Williams who sponsored her star, writing, “A public thank you to KW He is the sole sponsor of my Star. Katt in me you have a Friend.”
